OTI Lumionics

Mississauga, CA · Full-time · C$95,000 – C$135,000

About this role

OTI Lumionics develops advanced materials using quantum simulations, machine learning, and real-world testing in pilot production. The company focuses on key enabling materials for OLED displays in next-generation consumer electronics and automotive applications. Advanced electrode materials support transparent displays and lighting.

Join the Chemistry team as a Synthetic Organic Chemist to carry out organic synthesis and produce molecules using various chemical and instrumental techniques. Work under minimal supervision in accordance with SOPs and health & safety standards. Plan, develop, and optimize synthetic strategies for mass-production ready materials.

Set up and organize equipment and reactions safely, execute purification techniques like normal phase chromatography and ion-exchange. Perform diverse organic laboratory techniques including oxygen and water sensitive chemistry and organometallic methods. Characterize products by interpreting spectral data independently.

Report results, deviations, and suggest procedure improvements while presenting data verbally and in writing. Ensure compliance with environmental policies and health & safety protocols. Contribute to a safe work environment using the computational Materials Discovery Platform for rapid material iteration.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of organic reactions and their corresponding mechanisms
  • Strong ability to perform independent research of chemical literature
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and relevant data processing programmes
  • Experience with laboratory set up/maintenance
  • Knowledge and understanding of GMP/GLP
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop and optimize synthetic strategies
  • Set up and organize equipment and reactions for safe performance
  • Develop methods for separating complex mixtures and execute purification techniques such as normal phase chromatography, reversed phase chromatography, and ion-exchange
  • Perform diverse organic laboratory techniques including oxygen and water sensitive chemistry, organometallic synthetic methods, and microscale manipulations
  • Characterize synthesized products by independent interpretation of spectral data
  • Report all results and deviations encountered during synthesis and suggest appropriate improvements to procedures
  • Present data in an organized and accurate fashion both verbal and written
