About this role

Join Freudenberg Group as an R&D Material Development Chemist focusing on rubber materials. Provide technical capabilities to support business objectives of lead centers. Participate in specific material, process, and product development projects as required.

Offer technical support to manufacturing sites in molding troubleshooting, scrap reduction activities, low-cost compounds, and process improvements. Assist components sites with mixing specifications, scrap reduction, testing, surface chemistry, and process improvements. Use DOE techniques during daily operations.

Support Kaizen and 3P activities while sharing technology among lead centers, divisions, and corporate development. Communicate clearly and concisely, engaging proactively with colleagues at all levels. Anticipate and meet internal and external customer needs.

Initiate programs to improve product profitability through compound enhancements with manufacturing sites. Leverage literature research to frame material development projects and create executable project plans. Drive innovation by taking informed risks for new solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science or other Chemistry related field
  • 2+ years Chemistry Laboratory experience in rubber processing, formulating, and compounding
  • Familiar with computer systems, especially Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Business level English skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25lbs
  • Ability to travel domestically or internationally 10% of the time
  • Communicates clearly and concisely while engaging proactively with colleagues
  • Drives innovative ideas and takes informed risks for new solutions

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical capabilities to support the business objectives of the lead centers
  • Participate on specific material, process and product development projects
  • Provide support in technology sharing among lead centers, divisions, and corporate development
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing sites in molding troubleshooting, scrap reduction, low-cost compounds and process improvements
  • Provide technical support to components sites in mixing specifications, scrap reduction, testing, surface chemistry and process improvements
  • Provide technical support during Kaizen and 3P activities
  • Use DOE techniques and initiate programs for improved profitability through compound improvements
  • Create and execute project plans using literature research skills and maintain proper laboratory records
