About this role

Baker Hughes is the world’s first fullstream provider of integrated oilfield products, services, and digital solutions. The Flexible Pipe System Offshore business leads in supplying unbonded flexible pipelines to API 17J with a 25+ year track record globally. This Senior Polymer Engineer role sits within the Brazilian materials team at the Retic facility.

You will support testing programmes with internal facilities and external test houses, including analysis and interpretation of test data for action and reporting. Generate material qualification documents, procurement specifications, and technical reports for the full polymeric product range, including extruded materials and tapes. Provide support to polymer technology queries from internal and external customers.

Form strong links with the wider Technology and Supply Chain organization across manufacturing sites in Newcastle Upon Tyne and Niteroi, plus engineering offices. Carry out investigations, analysis, and reporting of product and process failures. Offer materials consultancy services as required to customers.

Support the full lifecycle of project execution, from bid kick-off and handover meetings for knowledge transfer to manufacturing support and customer acceptance. Maintain technical liaison with vendors for continuous improvement and specialist activities like chemical compatibility evaluations and permeation assessments for polymers.

Requirements

Strong background in polymer materials and testing programmes
Experience with material qualification documents and procurement specifications for polymeric products
Proficiency in analysis and interpretation of polymer test data
Knowledge of product and process failure investigations in polymer applications
Expertise in chemical compatibility evaluations and permeation assessments for polymers
Familiarity with API 17J standards for flexible pipelines
Skills in supporting polymer technology queries for oilfield products

Responsibilities

Support testing programmes with internal test facilities and external test houses including subsequent analysis and interpretation of test data for appropriate action and reporting
Generate material qualification documents, procurement specifications and technical reports related to full polymeric product range including extruded materials and tapes
Provide support to polymer technology queries and clarifications as required from internal and external customers
Carry out investigation, analysis and reporting of product and process failures in support of internal and external customers
Provide a materials consultancy service as required to internal and external customers
Support the full lifecycle of project execution from bid kick-off meetings and project handover meetings to manufacturing technical support and final customer acceptance
Develop and maintain technical liaison with vendors as part of continuous improvement and respond to vendor polymer technology queries
Undertake specific activities related to specialist technical areas including chemical compatibility evaluations for polymer exposures and permeation assessments for polymers
