About this role

Cresilon® is a Brooklyn-based biotechnology company developing, manufacturing, and marketing hemostatic medical devices using proprietary hydrogel technology. The R&D Formulation Manager/Principal Scientist leads design, development, and implementation of novel formulations and polymer materials for medical devices. All activities ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards.

This role provides expertise in formulation development, building internal capabilities for innovative solutions aligned with the company's technical vision. Responsibilities include developing and characterizing formulations, recruiting talent, and managing technical collaborations with external suppliers. Formulations integrate into scalable manufacturing processes, in-house or through CDMOs.

The position operates in a collaborative, cross-functional environment requiring flexibility and focus on scientific formulation. As a senior technical role, it oversees a small team and demands subject matter expertise in polymer material science and biomaterials. The role reports to the Vice President Technology.

Lead creation of documentation for regulatory submissions and develop strategies for grants and publications. Secure non-dilutive funding through grant opportunities to support a strong pipeline of customer-focused innovations. Explore new technologies for robust, innovative materials and products.

Requirements

  • Subject matter expertise in polymer material science
  • Expertise in formulation strategies
  • Knowledge of analytical chemistry
  • Understanding of biomaterial interactions with biological systems
  • Experience leading small R&D teams in formulation development
  • Ability to manage technical collaborations with external suppliers and vendors
  • Proficiency in integrating formulations into scalable manufacturing processes
  • Skills in creating documentation for regulatory submissions and securing grants

Responsibilities

  • Lead, staff, and manage formulation development teams across multiple parallel product development opportunities
  • Provide sound scientific leadership, monitoring, and coaching through initiation, planning, and execution of team activities
  • Create and lead experimentation for exploratory and product development research focused on polymeric materials
  • Exercise technical judgment in design, execution, and interpretation of experiments to solve complex problems
  • Lead material/design/process changes through design control process with well-documented research
  • Review and author protocols and reports including development studies and design verification/validation
  • Develop and implement investigations into new technologies and capabilities partnering with business development
  • Lead chemical and mechanical property evaluation and develop test method capabilities for R&D and production
