As a Polymer Chemist, provide technical support for applied developmental projects through formulation innovations, product improvements, production efficiencies, and improved product service life. Apply research, analyses, data collection, and training to develop new or improved chemistries for commercial applications.
Conduct laboratory experiments involving preparation and testing of formulations, process characterizations, compound properties, environmental testing, chemical cost reductions, and recycle analyses. Execute work plans to meet project timelines as established. Prepare formulations and perform tests using approved methodologies while analyzing results for accuracy.
This onsite role is based at the Salisbury, NC plant with up to 50% travel. Work within varying teams or independently as required, ensuring safety procedures comply with company and regulatory standards. Maintain confidentiality of documents and data to protect intellectual property.
Stay current with developments in new chemistries through publications and technical conferences. Create clear, concise reports providing insights on results and conclusions. Contribute to business growth through precision and timely execution of developmental work.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering discipline or relative experience
- 2 plus years of relevant industrial manufacturing experience with polymer focus
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail, analytical data, and execution against timelines
- Ability to work within varying teams and independently as required
- Ability to conduct laboratory experiments utilizing industry-standard techniques, equipment, and procedures while maintaining safety
- Travel up to 50% of the time
Responsibilities
- Conduct laboratory experiments involving preparation and testing of formulations, process characterizations, defining compound properties, environmental testing, chemical cost reductions, synergy of coatings and liquid chemistries, and recycle analyses
- Execute work plan to project timeline as established at project implementation
- Prepare formulations and conduct tests in accordance with relevant approved test methodology, analyze and validate results to ensure accuracy
- Create and document clear, concise, and accurate reports providing insights on results and conclusions based upon data sets
- Ensure documents and data are confidentially maintained to protect company’s intellectual property
- Stay relevant with developments in new chemistries through internal and external sources such as publications and attendance at technical conferences
- Create procedures to ensure all safety concerns and hazards are properly addressed in compliance with company and regulatory requirements
