The company seeks a Senior Scientist, Synthetic Chemist reporting to the Director and Head of Chemistry. This Woburn, MA-based role assists in synthetic experiments and cannot be remote.

Design synthetic routes for novel organic and inorganic materials for lithium metal batteries independently. Perform wet lab experiments, purifications, and characterizations using NMR, GC, and LC-MS. Optimize syntheses for scale-up and develop SOPs for novel materials.

Report to the Director of Chemistry while mentoring junior team members. Collaborate and communicate with other R&D teams. Adhere to safety regulations, Good Laboratory Practices, and company policies during routine lab tasks.

Extract insights from large cell testing data to explore improvement opportunities in mobile energy storage. Contribute to global operations in Boston, Singapore, Shanghai, and Seoul. Thrive in an innovative environment advancing battery health and safety.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Chemistry with 0-2 years academic or industry experience
Knowledge of chemistry principles and methods with ability to interpret results and communicate effectively
Good problem-solving skills, ability to think out of the box, and follow product development processes
Experience with fluorine chemistry and lithium chemistry strongly preferred
Strong communication and quantitative skills
Good team player

Responsibilities

Independently design synthetic routes for novel organic and inorganic chemical materials for lithium metal batteries
Perform a variety of wet lab experiments and purification
Characterize synthetic compounds via NMR, GC, and LC-MS
Optimize synthesis for scale-up and develop SOPs for novel synthetic materials
Mentor junior members of the team
Perform routine laboratory tasks
Adhere to all safety and Good Laboratory Practice regulations as well as company policies
Collaborate and communicate with other teams in research and development
