North Chicago, US · Full-time · $110,000 – $155,000

About this role

AbbVie's Process Chemistry group invents and executes chemical processes, preparing active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) for toxicology studies, clinical trials, and drug product development. The group seeks a highly motivated Associate Scientist II to support process research and development of peptides, small molecules, and ADCs from pre-clinical through early clinical phases. Primary focus includes maintaining peptide synthesis equipment and facilities utilized by development chemists.

The role involves procurement of chemicals and materials for peptide synthesis, along with performing routine experiments such as synthesis and analysis of peptides, small molecules, and ADCs. Maintain laboratories and shared instruments including peptide synthesizers, UPLCs, and LCMSs through periodic routine maintenance. Manage laboratory equipment and chemical inventories to support synthesis efforts.

Assist development chemists supporting the peptide portfolio by performing solid phase synthesis of peptides following established protocols. With supervision, conduct process development and characterization for peptides and other modalities as a member of chemistry teams. Interacts well with diverse groups within function to enable higher performance.

Generate and analyze precise, reliable, and reproducible data in a timely manner. Key AbbVie competencies include learning fast, grasping the essence, raising the bar, creating a learning environment, and nurturing innovation. Embrace ideas of others and manage innovation to reality.

Requirements

  • MS in chemistry or related field or bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field with 3+ yrs industry experience
