Erie, US · Full-time · $58,000 – $65,000

About this role

The School of Engineering at Penn State Behrend seeks qualified applicants for a one-year postdoctoral scholar position, with possibility of renewal. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Polymer Engineering, Macromolecular Science and Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related field. Research experience in polymer characterization or polymer processing is essential.

The postdoctoral scholar will investigate crystallization phenomena related to polymer processing. This role requires experience with analytical techniques such as thermal analysis and X-ray scattering. Hands-on experience with plastic processing, fast scanning calorimetry, and X-ray methods supports the investigative work.

The successful candidate will work with Dr. Xiaoshi Zhang, Dr. Alicyn Rhoades, and other polymer faculty members at Penn State. Collaboration occurs within the polymer research group at the School of Engineering. This environment fosters shared expertise in polymer sciences.

Mentoring undergraduate researchers and publishing in peer-reviewed journals are key contributions. Knowledge of programming and machine learning enhances research efforts. The term position continues based on university need, performance, and funding availability.
