About this role

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine develops treatments that improve health worldwide across neurology, oncology, infectious disease, and more. The Chemical Process Research & Development (CPRD) department advances synthetic methodologies for small molecules, oligonucleotides, peptides, and ADCs. The Process Analytical Research (PAR) subdepartment provides analytical data and expertise for all chemical process activities.

As Principal Scientist, provide advanced analytical characterization and problem-solving for chemical process development of complex modalities like ADCs/bioconjugates and oligonucleotides including siRNA. Maintain hands-on laboratory work by designing and executing analytical experiments while troubleshooting complex issues. Partner closely with process chemists and cross-functional stakeholders to drive analytical strategy.

Operate as a scientific leader who prioritizes execution and communicates results across projects. Guide and mentor junior scientists and project analysts within an inclusive work environment guided by Our Credo. Recognize individual merit in a diverse global team focused on healthcare innovation.

Drive innovation growth through internal and external scientific networks, including university collaborations. Contribute to world-class API production by enhancing efficiency, safety, cost-effectiveness, and regulatory compliance. Generate and document essential end-to-end knowledge for process development.

Requirements

  • Expertise in analytics for complex synthetic modalities such as ADCs/bioconjugates and oligonucleotides
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing state-of-the-art analytical methods for chemical processes
  • Hands-on experience with analytical experimentation and troubleshooting in pharmaceutical R&D
  • Ability to generate and document end-to-end knowledge for process development activities
  • Strong scientific leadership in partnering with process chemists and cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge of enhancing efficiency, safety, cost-effectiveness, and regulatory compliance in API production
  • Experience ensuring quality and performance through analytical data in CPRD environments

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced analytical characterization and problem-solving to support chemical process development for new/complex modalities, focusing on ADCs/bioconjugates and oligonucleotides (incl. siRNA)
  • Operate as a scientific leader partnering closely with process chemists and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Drive execution, prioritization, and clear communication of analytical strategy and results across projects
  • Maintain hands-on laboratory contribution by designing and executing analytical experiments
  • Troubleshoot complex problems alongside the team
  • Guide and mentor junior scientists and project analysts
  • Drive innovation growth through internal and external scientific networks, including collaborations with universities
