About this role
As an Automation Engineer within our Process Engineering & modeling team, you'll translate laboratory workflows into robust automated protocols and optimize existing automation infrastructure. You'll serve as the in-house expert for custom robotics and system orchestration to advance pharmaceutical development. This role leads evaluation and implementation of new automated systems for process characterization.
Collaborate with process chemistry teams to identify automation opportunities and develop documentation for automated processes. Provide troubleshooting and technical support for automated systems. Program automated laboratory systems, integrating analytical instruments with laboratory software and Sanofi's data management services.
Work closely with laboratory teams including process chemists, engineers, and the high-throughput experimentation team. Evaluate and select automation platforms and robotics systems suited for chemical and analytical workflows. Integrate high-throughput experimentation tools such as liquid handlers, solid dispensers, and analytical instruments.
Assist in developing digital twins for batch and continuous processes aligned with Quality by Design principles. Implement Model Predictive Control systems using advanced process models for real-time optimization. Requirements
- Bachelor’s (with 6+ years of experience) or Master’s (with 4+ years of experience) degree in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Biomedical), Computer Science, or a related technical field
- Strong skills in programming and developing automated laboratory systems
- Experience evaluating and selecting robotics systems for chemical workflows
- Proficiency in integrating analytical instruments and high-throughput experimentation tools
- Knowledge of digital twins, Model Predictive Control, and process modeling for batch and continuous processes
- Ability to troubleshoot and maintain custom robotics and automation infrastructure
- Expertise in system orchestration and workflow automation for process chemistry labs
