About this role
GSK seeks a 12-month co-op in Discovery Chemistry to focus on organic synthesis and modern industrial technologies for key challenges in chemistry projects. The group partners across research to deliver high-quality small molecules from hit generation through late-stage optimization. Join a productive team designing and synthesizing drug molecules for development.
Synthesize new chemical entities, perform medicinal chemistry data analytics, and design compounds to test hypotheses. Embed fully in a project team with accountabilities in meetings, brainstorming, and cross-discipline interactions. Match with an experienced scientist for project support and success.
Handle accurate notebook recording, reaction setups, simple workups, thin layer and flash chromatography, basic NMR and mass spec interpretation, and safe lab practices. Gain exposure to medicinal chemistry problem-solving, structure-activity relationships, high-throughput experimentation, and parallel synthesis methods. Learn how these skills drive small-molecule drug discovery.
GSK scientists provide tutorials on principles via lunch & learn sessions highlighting past achievements. Showcase work and achievements in a department presentation at term's end. Build relationships with scientific leaders lasting beyond the role.
