This Process Chemistry role in the Hazardous Reaction Laboratory supports developing hazardous chemistry routes. Work is hands-on, executing organic synthesis including catalytic reactions from gram-scale to kilogram-scale. Use equipment like Endeavor screening systems, EasyMAX reactors, and Parr autoclaves requiring technical skill.

Maintain safe, organized lab environments while operating and upholding equipment. Prioritize safety in all activities, following established practices. Schedule and execute experimental support to meet timelines in a pharmaceutical setting.

Requirements

  • MS degree in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry or closely related field with 3+ years professional experience in pharmaceutical industry; or BS degree with 7+ years
  • Ability and willingness to work in the laboratory with a variety of chemicals
  • Ability to prioritize safety in all laboratory activities and strictly follow safe work practices
  • Proficiency with hands-on wet chemistry, recognizing and anticipating chemical issues
  • Familiarity and proficiency with digital tools including electronic laboratory notebooks, Microsoft SharePoint, OneNote, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to schedule, organize, and execute daily and longer-term experimental activities to meet timelines
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal customers
  • Experience supporting facility and equipment maintenance and compliance requirements

Responsibilities

  • Support HRL staff in developing hazardous chemistry routes
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Maintain a safe, organized working environment
  • Execute key chemistry processing steps such as heterogeneous and homogeneous catalytic reactions and organic synthesis procedures
  • Perform chemistry activities from gram-scale bench work to kilogram-scale processing using wet and dry equipment
  • Utilize reaction systems including Endeavor-type screening equipment, EasyMAX pressure reaction systems, and Parr high-pressure autoclaves
  • Follow preventive maintenance procedures for laboratory equipment
  • Support facility and equipment maintenance including routine upkeep
