About this role

Researching and developing patented Sheertex materials while optimizing them for performance textile products. Apply scientific processes to develop existing and novel high performance polymers. Support manufacturing engineering with new formulations and production innovations.

Develop techniques to optimize polymers for functionality, versatility, and sustainability. Establish key performance parameters and research new materials to test. Assist in troubleshooting material quality across fiber production, post-processing, and garment production.

Lead multifilament fiber process development, optimization, and troubleshooting at lab and production scales. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, QC, and plant management. Support testing lab by establishing methods to ensure expected material performance.

Perform intellectual property research on new developments in materials and processes. Contribute to IP development for materials and functionality. Participate in capital projects to ensure proper process design and equipment specification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, master’s or PhD degree in material science, polymer science, fiber/textile engineering or chemistry
  • Experience with polymer synthesis, processing, and testing methods
  • Fiber and textile processing knowledge
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams in high-pressure environments
  • Demonstrated ability to translate new technologies to manufacturing
  • Familiarity with ASTM and AATCC standards for polymer testing
  • Experience optimizing multifilament fiber processes at lab and production scales
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting material quality in fiber and textile production

Responsibilities

  • Develop and improve formulations and development of new polymers/materials
  • Lead multifilament fiber process development optimization and troubleshooting at lab and production scale
  • Contribute to novel techniques for processing and optimizing high performance materials and their composition
  • Develop and execute trials to establish production parameters, create technical specifications, and define testing performance parameters
  • Provide, support, and transfer product knowledge to manufacturing team and QC for all materials produced
  • Perform intellectual property research for new developments in materials, processing methods, and functionality; contribute to IP development
  • Perform and establish material/polymer processing and testing methods for all steps of the material life cycle per ASTM and AATCC standards
  • Collaborate with plant management on capital projects to ensure proper process design and equipment specification
