About this role

The Research Scientist plays a key role in the Medicinal Chemistry Scale-Up Group. They work with high independence to synthesize small molecule drug candidates and intermediates on scales from multi-grams to hundreds of grams. Advanced troubleshooting, process optimization, and complex procedures are essential.

Design and execute experimental synthetic work to deliver materials on tens to hundreds of grams for project teams. Independently develop, optimize, and scale up synthetic processes to meet requirements. Proficiency with large-scale glassware from 5L to 20L supports flexible scale operations.

Collaborate within the Scale-Up Group for rapid material delivery and continuous process improvement. Share knowledge, troubleshoot challenges, and analyze complex data for actionable recommendations. Prepare detailed presentations communicating findings clearly.

Stay current with scientific literature and integrate new methodologies into research. Identify and implement emerging technologies to enhance platforms. Demonstrate diligent process safety, hazard assessment, and regulatory compliance while contributing to patents and publications.

Requirements

Proven experience in a large-scale synthetic laboratory delivering small molecule organic compounds
Proficiency in working with large-scale glassware (5L to 20L) and flexible approach to various scales
Strong synthetic chemistry expertise with deep mechanistic understanding of reaction pathways
Demonstrated ability to perform advanced experimental troubleshooting and process optimization
Familiarity with process safety and hazard assessment with meticulous safety practices
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with collaborative team-oriented mindset
Experience in identifying and implementing emerging technologies to advance research

Responsibilities

Design and execute experimental synthetic work to deliver materials on scales ranging from tens to hundreds of grams
Independently develop, optimize, and scale up synthetic processes to meet project requirements
Work collaboratively within the Scale-Up Group to ensure rapid delivery of materials
Share knowledge, troubleshoot challenges, and contribute to continuous improvement of group processes
Systematically collate, analyze, and interpret complex data to generate actionable recommendations
Prepare and deliver detailed study presentations communicating experimental findings
Stay updated with scientific literature and incorporate new insights into research activities
Demonstrate diligent approach to process safety, hazard assessment, and regulatory compliance
