Are you a scientist with expertise in analytical chemistry and automation? Join the Physical and Analytical Chemistry team within Discovery Sciences to drive analytical and operational excellence. The role is based at AstraZeneca's R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden, combining practical laboratory skills with deep theoretical knowledge.

In this hands-on laboratory role, apply expertise in analytical chemistry and automation to deliver characterization data to projects. Predominately provide analytical LC-UV-MS data and improve current workflows in collaboration with colleagues. Address complex technical challenges from scientific and operational perspectives.

The Physical and Analytical Chemistry team supports design and evaluation of new candidate drugs through analysis of small molecules and New Modalities. State-of-the-art laboratories feature LC-UV-MS, NMR, and spectroscopy systems. Discovery Sciences creates innovative solutions across small molecules, peptides, and nucleotide-based therapies.

Assess new digital and technology innovations for analytical chemistry and lab automation workflows. Contribute to FAIR data strategies and data foundations for machine learning. Support integration of analytical chemistry in robotic and digital automated workflows for high-throughput applications.

Requirements

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry or a related discipline, or an MSc in Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, or Engineering with at least 3 years of relevant postgraduate experience
  • Excellent knowledge of analytical chromatographic and detection techniques, including method development and instrument troubleshooting
  • A track record of applying analytical chemistry techniques to solve scientific problems
  • A documented record of automation experience, both robotic and digital
  • Good working knowledge of analytical science, encompassing technical and equipment knowledge
  • Understanding of data requirements to support synthetic chemistry

Responsibilities

  • Provide analytical expertise by delivering LC-UV-MS data to projects with established applications
  • Perform analytical method development, instrument troubleshooting, and workflow optimisation when needed
  • Assess new digital and technology innovations for analytical chemistry in collaboration with local teams
  • Develop analytical and lab automation workflows
  • Contribute to and support FAIR data strategies and data foundations for machine learning applications
  • Support positioning and integration of analytical chemistry in automated workflows, both robotic and digital
  • Provide expert insights in automation workflows, walk-up analytics, and high-throughput applications
  • Drive analytical chemistry improvement objectives at various stages of early drug discovery
