The Product Development Chemist - Commercial Accounts is a hands-on materials and formulation leader guiding commercial product development, technical problem solving, and process optimization. This role combines advanced polymer and coatings formulation expertise with structured technical governance.

The Commercial Technical Lead drives early-stage product development and formulation direction for complex commercial opportunities, establishing technical intent and success criteria. They perform and guide initial laboratory work to set direction before transitioning execution to downstream team members. Maintains meaningful laboratory engagement and development ownership.

Serves as the technical authority for commercial work intake and prioritization within Dunmore's collaborative environment. Dunmore leverages deep expertise in novel coatings, films, multi-layer laminates, and 14,000 unique chemistries. Partners with Fortune 500 customers across 25+ countries as a Gold Level Supplier.

Operates with high autonomy as the primary technical front door for commercial work, ensuring intentional, disciplined efforts aligned with business priorities. Delights customers through technical innovation, high service levels, and open collaboration to solve difficult application problems. Advances high-growth market solutions.

Requirements

  • Advanced polymer and coatings formulation expertise
  • Hands-on experience in materials formulation and laboratory development
  • Knowledge of novel coatings, films, multi-layer laminates, foils, plastics, and fabrics
  • Ability to evaluate technical feasibility, risk, effort, and manufacturability
  • Proficiency in establishing technical intent and success criteria for product development
  • Skills in structured technical governance and workflow systems
  • Experience guiding early-stage product development and scale-up transitions

Responsibilities

  • Lead onboarding and early technical direction of commercial Development Requests (DRs)
  • Evaluate technical feasibility, risk, effort, and manufacturability
  • Answer the critical business question: “What would it take?”
  • Lead front-end formulation and early-stage product development for complex commercial opportunities
  • Perform and guide initial laboratory work to establish technical direction
  • Develop and refine formulations, constructions, and material solutions to meet customer requirements
  • Transition structured execution and scale-up activities to the Customer Solutions Chemist
  • Authorize, filter, and frame Commercial Technical Services Requests (TSRs)
