Nanyang Technological University

Singapore, SG · Full-time · S$90,000 – S$120,000

About this role

The School of Biological Sciences (SBS), part of the College of Science at Nanyang Technological University, advances excellence in biological and biomedical sciences. Research spans infectious diseases, immunology, neurodegenerative disorders, telomere biology, and genome function. SBS seeks a highly motivated Research Fellow for small-molecule drug discovery using emerging chemically induced proximity (CIP) technologies.

This role integrates medicinal chemistry and chemical biology to discover and optimize novel therapeutics. Propose hypothesis-driven target molecules based on structure-activity relationships to advance lead series for proximity inducing modalities (PIM). Solve complex synthesis problems using state-of-the-art methodology.

Join a vibrant, international community of scientific leaders, researchers, and professionals dedicated to innovation, discovery, and education. Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary team members to enhance research productivity. Use strong communication skills to share objectives and results.

Future research focuses on developing next-generation proximity-inducing drugs. Train and mentor graduate and undergraduate students. Maintain expertise through familiarity with scientific literature in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Requirements

  • PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a closely related discipline
  • Strong hands-on experience in multi-step organic synthesis and compound design
  • Demonstrated track record of research productivity (e.g., publications/patents)
  • Proficiency in analytical methods (e.g., HPLC, NMR, LC-MS)
  • Experience in targeted protein degradation and related modalities
  • >4 years of postdoctoral experience preferred
  • Interest or experience in interdisciplinary research involving pharmacology, biology, or ADME/PK
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Responsibilities

  • Propose hypothesis-driven target molecules based on emerging structure-activity relationships, optimizing compounds to advance lead series for proximity inducing modalities (PIM)
  • Solve complex synthesis problems using state-of-the-art methodology
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary team members to enhance research productivity and innovation
  • Maintain high level of expertise through familiarity with scientific literature
  • Use strong communication (both verbal and technical) and interpersonal skills to communicate objectives and results
  • Train and mentor graduate and undergraduate students

Benefits

  • Work in a vibrant, international community of scientific leaders dedicated to innovation, discovery, and education
  • Diverse and inclusive workforce committed to equality of opportunity
  • Recruitment on the basis of merit, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, marital status, family responsibilities, or disability
