About this role
Based in the School of Pharmacy at Newcastle University, participate fully in the School’s range of teaching and research activities. Contribute specialist knowledge relevant to medicinal chemistry within a pharmacy provision that complements the growing teaching and research interests of the School. Experience of teaching and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students required.
Undertake teaching, leadership and supervision duties across a range of School programmes, initially focusing on the pharmaceutics components of the Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) programme. Act as a personal tutor concerned with students’ academic achievements and pastoral care. Offer specialist expertise in a contemporary area of medicinal chemistry.
The School benefits from being an integral part of the Faculty of Medical Sciences with strong teaching and research links to colleagues in medicine, biomedical sciences, dentistry, psychology and chemistry. Collaborate alongside three research institutes: the Biosciences Institute (NUBI), the Population and Health Sciences Institute (PHSI) and the Translational and Clinical Research Institute (TCRI).
Contribute to the research strategy or scholarly activity of the School, linking with other University groups to maximise income and impact. Participate in external activity related to pharmacy, learning and teaching, and research. Engage in staff development activities and promotion of undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy programmes.
Requirements
- Experience of teaching and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Specialist knowledge relevant to medicinal chemistry
- Substantial experience working within a School of Pharmacy or equivalent industrial experience
- Ability to contribute to pharmacy provision complementing School’s teaching and research interests
- Expertise in contemporary areas of medicinal chemistry suitable for pharmacy programmes
Responsibilities
- Offer specialist expertise in a contemporary area of medicinal chemistry
- Undertake teaching, leadership and supervision duties across School programmes, initially focusing on pharmaceutics components of the MPharm programme
- Undertake administrative duties, including participation in School and Faculty committees
- Act as a personal tutor to a group of students for academic achievements and pastoral care
- Contribute to promotion of undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy programmes
- Contribute to the research strategy of the School and link with University groups
- Participate in external activity related to pharmacy, learning and teaching, and research
- Participate in relevant staff development activities
