About this role

In your role as a Scientist specializing in organic synthesis, you will be part of a team developing new molecules (additives) for surface coatings. You will work on the design and synthesis of these molecules in close collaboration with interdisciplinary research groups. This position focuses on advancing surface technology through innovative chemistry.

You will initiate, plan, coordinate, execute, and evaluate scientific research and development projects in accordance with project plans. Design and conduct laboratory experiments, assess feasibility of scientific principles for inventions, products, and process improvements. Perform literature and patent research to support these activities.

Collaborate across departments as a technical point of contact and advisor on subject-matter-specific topics. Participate in safety assessments, laboratory automation initiatives, and ensure operational readiness including cleaning, maintenance, repairs, and procurement. Contribute to interdepartmental research activities in a dynamic team environment.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state-of-the-art scientific principles and contribute to publications and conferences as appropriate. Produce reference substrates and carry out application testing to further develop products and processes. Grow through hands-on involvement in cutting-edge organic chemistry applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related scientific discipline; PhD or more than five years of relevant professional experience advantageous
  • Completed degree in chemistry or chemical engineering or a related field
  • Extensive knowledge in synthesis with a focus on organic chemistry and modern synthetic methods
  • Proficiency with commonly used software (ChemDraw, SciFinder, MestreNova)
  • Willingness to participate in interdisciplinary projects and travel (less than 15%)
  • Analytical thinking, creativity, a structured and methodical working style

Responsibilities

  • Initiate, plan, coordinate, execute, and evaluate scientific research and development projects in accordance with project plans

  • Prepare and maintain scientific documentation, protocols, specifications, procedures, reports, and databases

  • Participate in safety assessments and laboratory automation initiatives
