About this role
Nature Communications is the leading multidisciplinary Open Access journal, publishing high-quality scientific research from across the natural sciences. We're seeking a scientist with a background in Polymer Chemistry, focusing on polymer materials or experience in polymer synthesis, polymer materials and characterization. This role suits researchers who love science but seek more than bench work.
Handle original research papers, working closely with editors on manuscript selection, peer review, and editorial decisions. Make well-reasoned choices on submissions using expert advice and determine subject representation in the journal. Liaise with Nature family editors and international experts.
Join Nature Portfolio, including Nature and Nature-branded journals, serving the scientific community. Work in offices like New York, Jersey City, Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Milan or Madrid under a hybrid model. Attend conferences and visit research institutions worldwide.

Requirements
- PhD (or equivalent) in polymer chemistry with a focus on polymer synthesis, polymer materials or polymer processing
- Thorough understanding of the fundamentals of the subject
- Passion for science and a thirst to learn more, demonstrating breadth of interest in scientific research within and beyond specialty and across polymer chemistry
- Critical eye, deep understanding of subject and interests beyond
- Ability to think on their feet
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and fluent in English (written and spoken)
Responsibilities
- Handle original research papers and work closely with other editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review
- Make well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in the light of expert advice
- Determine the representation of their subject in the journal
- Liaise extensively with editors at other journals in the Nature family and with experts in the international scientific community
- Attend conferences and visit research institutions
