About this role

The University of Washington Tacoma invites applications for a Teaching-track Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences. This full-time 100% FTE position features a 9-month service period with an expected start date of September 16, 2026. The initial appointment is for a three-year term, eligible for reappointment after successful review.

The successful candidate will perform highly effective and inclusive teaching using a variety of pedagogical techniques and technologies in multiple modalities, including in-person, online, and hybrid courses. Primary teaching focuses on lower-division Organic Chemistry with both lecture and in-person laboratory instruction. Opportunities exist for upper-division Chemistry courses based on interests.

Faculty will mentor undergraduate students in Biomedical and Environmental Sciences and participate in advising. The teaching load equals seven undergraduate lecture courses per year, including six courses with laboratory components. Support department commitments to institutional service, professional development, and community outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Teach lower-division Organic Chemistry lectures and in-person laboratories
  • Instruct in upper-division Chemistry courses depending on areas of interest
  • Develop and improve curriculum for lecture and laboratory instruction
  • Incorporate high-impact and inclusive teaching practices
  • Mentor and advise undergraduate students in Biomedical and Environmental Sciences
  • Engage in institutional service, professional development, and community outreach
  • Deliver teaching load equivalent to seven undergraduate lecture courses per academic year

Benefits
