As a Research Fellow, apply and refine expertise in research methodologies, design, and delivery to contribute to the University’s standing as a national leader in the discipline. Conduct original research independently or as part of a team in molecules to medicines across therapeutic areas.

Key responsibilities include conducting original research focusing on publications, conference presentations, and securing research funding. Maintain a strong research profile through book chapters, peer-reviewed journal articles, and seminar papers. Develop collaborations and engage in translational research leading to commercialisation, improved policy, or community enhancement.

Provide informal mentoring and guidance to lower-level academics and supervise postgraduate research students. Carry out administrative duties and contribute to faculty/school meetings. Foster a positive workplace culture valuing diversity of thought, collaboration, and excellence.

Contribute to applications for competitive research grants and maintain quality, standards, and excellence in research output. Understand and further the University and faculty strategic agenda. Communicate expertise with industry through seminars, conferences, and public events.

Requirements

  • PhD in organic synthetic chemistry with a minimum of 2 years of postdoctoral research experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in the synthetic chemistry of hydroxamic acid natural product analogues (essential)
  • Demonstrated expertise in the chemical biology of hydroxamic acid natural product analogues (desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising Honours and PhD-level research students, with successful completions as co-supervisor
  • Demonstrated experience in laboratory management and safety

Responsibilities

  • Conduct original research independently or as part of a team, focusing on publications, conference presentations, and securing research funding

Benefits

  • Base salary starting at $127,436 + 17% superannuation
  • Full time, fixed term opportunity for 12 months
