DataLase develops ground-breaking, sustainable inkless printing solutions for products and packaging. The technology enables real-time marketing capabilities and personalisation while integrating digital printing at the optimal point in the supply chain to maximise returns and minimise environmental impact.
The Junior Development Chemist Degree Apprentice will support day-to-day laboratory operations and provide technical assistance to experienced chemists. Daily work centres on formulation development, testing, and accurate recording of results in a structured laboratory setting.
The role operates within a collaborative environment that spans technical and commercial teams. Apprentices follow established safety procedures while preparing aqueous, solvent-based and UV-flexo coatings for evaluation and quality checks.
This Level 6 apprenticeship builds technical expertise in coating formulation, raw material interactions, and laboratory best practices. Successful completion provides a foundation for progression in research, product development or chemical process roles.
Requirements
- Naturally curious about chemistry and how substances interact, react and behave under different conditions
- Comfortable working in a laboratory environment with hands-on sample preparation and analysis
- Methodical approach to following detailed procedures with accuracy and care
- Strong attention to detail when producing precise and reliable data
- Logical mindset for critical thinking when results do not go as expected
- Confident working with data, calculations and reports
Responsibilities
- Support experienced chemists with the development and testing of coating formulations
- Assist with laboratory testing, quality checks and recording results accurately
- Help prepare aqueous, solvent-based and UV-flexo coatings for evaluation
- Learn about raw materials and how they interact within different products and processes
- Develop an understanding of laboratory safety procedures and best practices
- Support day-to-day laboratory activities to ensure projects and customer requirements are met
