About this role

Syngenta Crop Protection, a world market leader headquartered in Switzerland, helps farmers protect crops from weeds, insects, diseases, and environmental threats while minimizing agricultural inputs. The Process Chemist provides extensive specialist chemistry expertise to define new manufacturing processes and drive improvements to existing ones for products. Participates in task force teams or capital projects as chemical process owner or expert across sites.

Ensures required HSE standards and good laboratory practices are applied. Controls and coordinates technical support as Chemistry Process Owner for manufacturing areas, applying theoretical and applied knowledge to guide challenges. Investigates, develops, and implements solutions to intractable problems encountered.

Communicates with and influences manufacturing, development, supply chain, HSE, regulatory, and other functions to define and implement development plans. Manages day-to-day expectations of stakeholders like site leadership and project managers. Establishes and maintains contact with internal and external centers of process technology expertise.

Develops, trains, and coaches junior staff or peers while managing day-to-day priorities amid resource constraints and strategies. Establishes and maintains technical documentation under project leader guidance. Supports the department in multiple specialist roles.

Requirements

  • PhD in organic chemistry or equivalent experience
  • Fluent English; German and French advantageous
  • Experience in manufacturing support, process improvements, and scale-up of chemical processes
  • Strong background in synthetic or physical organic chemistry, reaction mechanisms, and kinetics
  • Experience with statistical analysis and experimental design
  • Laboratory experience
  • Practical experience in process safety, reaction hazards, electrostatics, environmental issues, and IP
  • Experience within a partnering function such as production and supply chain
