About this role

This is a tenure-track, full-time faculty position in Organic Chemistry within the Biological and Physical Sciences Department. Primary responsibilities are teaching 15 contact hours per semester, service, and professional development, with overload and summer contracts available. Faculty are represented by CSEA, the Columbus State faculty union.

Teaches assigned Organic Chemistry courses as scheduled and assumes primary responsibility for curriculum oversight in conjunction with department policies. Designs curriculum considering individual student differences to support appropriate learning activities. Uses technology appropriately for course objectives and communicates expectations clearly to students.

The department is a large academic unit with well-equipped teaching laboratories offering courses in Chemistry including Organic Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and more. Columbus State is an open enrollment community college serving diverse students from different backgrounds with a large dual enrollment population. Faculty must be Ohio residents and base themselves on campus.

Faculty progress through ranks of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor. Responsibilities

  • Teaches assigned Organic Chemistry courses as scheduled and oversees curriculum rigor
  • Designs curriculum with consideration of individual student differences
  • Uses technology appropriate to course objectives and communicates expectations to students
  • Maintains accurate records, attendance, and submits grades promptly
  • Creates and maintains syllabi incorporating departmental and college requirements
  • Employs assessment techniques to measure student performance on course goals
  • Facilitates learning in digital environments
  • Works closely with students in the laboratory to maximize instructional value
