About this role

In this role, you will provide technical support for commercial consumable products, including friction modifiers, greases, lubricants, and solid sticks. Supporting new product development through a stage gate process will be a key focus, ensuring projects meet technical targets and scope.

Your daily work involves engaging in a variety of R&D activities such as scientific research, product formulation, and analytical and performance testing. You will also handle data analysis, interpretation, and accurate record keeping, while communicating results effectively.

You will work collaboratively and independently within the consumable products group, with potential supervision of COOP students or laboratory technicians. Responsibility for lab organization, safety, and the group meeting program for your assigned projects is expected.

This role offers the opportunity to innovate and identify new approaches to broaden product functionality and performance. You will also contribute to manufacturing quality control, process improvements, and training of personnel, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and safety.

Requirements

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Chemistry or related physical sciences
  • Some experience in planning and conducting R&D projects
  • Some experience in conducting projects, including university or COOP projects
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently within a team
  • Knowledge of chemistry principles relevant to formulation and testing of lubricants, greases, and friction modifiers
  • Experience with analytical testing, data analysis, and interpretation
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety, 5S, and continuous improvement practices

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for commercial consumable products such as friction modifiers, greases, lubricants, and solid sticks
  • Support new product development activities through a stage gate process to deliver against technical targets and project scope
  • Engage in R&D activities including scientific research, product formulation, analytical and performance testing, scale-up manufacturing testing, and data analysis
  • Exhibit innovation to identify new approaches that broaden and expand product functionality and performance
  • Responsible for lab organization, safety, and the group meeting program for assigned projects
  • Train and develop personnel within projects on health and safety, lab equipment, SOPs, and chemistry background
  • Support manufacturing quality control, including audits and communication with toll manufacturers
  • Design and implement changes in lab or manufacturing processes to improve safety, costs, and efficiency
