The Advanced Molecule Design team optimizes molecules to strong drug candidates that become breakthrough medicines. This leader reports to the Head of Medicinal Chemistry to advance projects in oncology, immunology, pain, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and obesity. Success requires supervising and mentoring medicinal chemistry project leaders and scientists to solve tough challenges.

Key responsibilities include championing rigorous science across a portfolio of small molecule programs and making sound decisions that balance speed with rigor. Build ONE TEAM collaboration across Lilly by breaking down silos and partnering with cross-functional leaders. Apply innovative solutions using modern computational methods including AI/ML to accelerate programs.

Requirements

  • Deeply experienced leader reporting to Head of Medicinal Chemistry
  • Track record of success leading Med Chem teams to discover and advance molecules to clinical candidates
  • Seasoned drug hunter skilled in solving tough med chem challenges and synthetic execution
  • Ability to supervise and mentor medicinal chemistry project leaders and scientists
  • Innovative leader with strong growth mindset to evolve team skills
  • Expertise advancing projects in oncology, immunology, pain, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and obesity
  • Ability to foster highly collaborative culture rewarding teamwork and accountability
