About this role

The Department of Chemistry seeks a sessional lecturer for CHM136H1F - Introductory Organic Chemistry I, recommended for life and health science students. The course reviews covalent bonding principles to understand organic molecule structure and shape, introducing molecular conformation, handedness, and spectroscopic techniques for structure deduction.

It explores the relationship between organic molecule structure and reactivity, illustrated by mechanisms of alkene and carbonyl functional group reactions, with acid/base chemistry throughout. In-person lectures occur Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm, with estimated enrolment of 256 students.

Estimated TA support provides 230 hours. The appointment runs from May 1, 2026, to June 30, 2026, on the St. George campus in the Faculty of Arts & Science. The lecturer handles all organizational aspects of course delivery.

Responsibilities include supervising teaching assistants, managing exams and grading, and conducting evaluations. This role offers experience in university-level organic chemistry instruction within a leading department.
