Neurocrine Biosciences

San Diego, US · Full-time · $60,000 – $75,000

About this role

Neurocrine Biosciences is a leading neuroscience-focused biopharmaceutical company dedicated to discovering life-changing treatments for neurological, neuroendocrine, and neuropsychiatric disorders. The Medicinal Chemistry Intern program offers research experience in biotechnology with exposure to medicinal chemistry and cross-functional collaboration. Interns contribute to bringing molecules from the lab into humans on a team renowned for CNS-based medicines.

Daily tasks involve synthesizing novel chemical intermediates and final compounds by reviewing chemical literature for procedures and reaction sequences. Interns set up reactions, monitor progress using TLC or LCMS, perform work-ups, and purify via automated chromatography like ISCO combi-flash or ACCQprep, or recrystallization. They apply medicinal chemistry and CNS-drug discovery principles to ongoing projects.

The medicinal chemistry team maintains a strong industry reputation for CNS medicines within an inclusive, positive culture passionate about people and purpose. Interns interact with other chemists, generate and interpret biological data, and help develop plans to address medicinal chemistry goals. A complete laboratory notebook is maintained throughout.

This role provides hands-on experience in biotech research, from synthesis to data interpretation, fostering skills in complex neuroscience drug discovery. Neurocrine relentlessly pursues medicines to ease debilitating diseases through unique insights into brain-body interconnections. Join a diverse portfolio advancing FDA-approved treatments and robust pipelines.
