About this role

The School of Professional Studies seeks an adjunct faculty member to deliver high quality learning experiences in an online, asynchronous, self-paced format for Organic Chemistry lecture and lab courses. Instructors deliver pre-developed courses, adding subject matter expertise and real-world examples. They play a key role in continuous improvement and course success.

Responsibilities include delivering didactic and laboratory instruction online, using the University’s learning management system to post materials and communicate with students. Facilitate student progress with timely, individualized feedback on assessments in an asynchronous environment. Monitor engagement and proactively support inactive learners.

Advise students via office hours, videoconference, phone, email, or other mechanisms, responding to messages within 2 business days. Provide service through mentoring, course development, and assessment. Participate in faculty meetings and training on online teaching and technology.

Maintain strong online presence with consistent communication and announcements. Grade assignments within turnaround times to support self-paced momentum. Submit final grades per policies, with additional responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree in subject area or related field preferred
  • Previous experience teaching online courses to undergraduate or graduate students entering health professions
  • Commitment to undergraduate, graduate and/or professional education and student success
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Must be able to work independently and effectively interact with a wide array of parties at all levels
  • Experience with a learning management system, such as Blackboard
  • Experience using ALEKS preferred

Responsibilities

  • Uses the University’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments and other materials and to communicate with students
  • Facilitates student progress in an asynchronous environment by providing timely, individualized feedback on assessments and learning activities
  • Advises and assists students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by videoconference, phone or email
  • Monitors student engagement and proactively reaches out to learners who are inactive or falling behind
  • Grades assignments, quizzes, and exams within established turnaround times
  • Participates in required faculty meetings and training sessions related to online teaching
  • Submits final grades in a timely manner in accordance with School of Professional Studies policies
