The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to lecture CHEM 533: Polymer Chemistry. This in-person course meets Tuesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 6:50 p.m. in the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

The course introduces basics of polymer synthesis, including traditional techniques such as free-radical, anionic chain, and step-growth polymerization. Newer methods of polymer synthesis will be discussed alongside preparation of advanced block, star, and brush copolymers. It covers semi-conducting and biodegradable polymers as well.

Fundamentals of structure and physical properties of polymers, along with methods of characterization, will be taught. The department values applicants demonstrating intercultural competence and commitment to serving a diverse campus community. CSUSM is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution.

Requirements

Master of Science in Chemistry
Experience teaching chemistry at the college level
Working in the State of California is a condition of employment
Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry (preferred)
Experience teaching a course in analytical chemistry or instrumental analysis (preferred)
Demonstrate intercultural competence and commitment to serving a diverse campus community (preferred)
