About this role

Teach Organic Chemistry in the Health Science program at South College. Course content encompasses fundamental concepts including classes of organic compounds, their structure, properties, nomenclature, and stereochemistry. Provide in-depth coverage of organic reactions, functional derivatives, mechanisms, and polymer chemistry.

Deliver lectures that align with laboratory courses designed to supplement lecture material. Integrate virtual or at-home assignments into labs for concurrent learning. Lectures and labs have separate codes but count as one course for teaching load.

Work in a higher education environment focused on chemistry education. Candidates engage students through practical and theoretical organic chemistry instruction. Preference given to those with online teaching experience for flexible delivery.

Requirements

  • Acceptable master’s degree in the specific subject matter field (doctorate preferred)
  • Earned master’s or doctoral degree with satisfactory completion of 18 graduate semester hours in subject matter field
  • Experience teaching similar courses at a higher education institute
  • Familiarity with organic chemistry topics such as nomenclature, stereochemistry, reactions, and mechanisms
  • Ability to integrate virtual or at-home lab assignments
  • Preference for experience teaching online

Responsibilities

  • Teach fundamental concepts of organic chemistry including classes of organic compounds, structure, properties, nomenclature, and stereochemistry
  • Cover organic reactions, functional derivatives, reaction mechanisms, and organic polymer chemistry
  • Deliver Organic Chemistry I lectures
  • Conduct laboratory courses concurrently with lectures to supplement subject matter
  • Integrate virtual or at-home assignments into laboratory courses
  • Combine one Organic Chemistry I lecture and one lab as a single course for teaching load
