Waltham, US · Full-time · $46,000 – $54,000
About this role
As a chemistry intern with the Alkermes medicinal chemistry group, you will learn about the pharmaceutical industry and interact with organizational leaders and their teams. You will gain hands-on experience in drug candidate synthesis, purification, and characterization by working alongside experienced chemists.
You will be responsible for the synthesis, purification, and characterization of molecules in support of a particular research project. This includes conducting multi-step syntheses utilizing specialized organic chemistry techniques such as handling air- and moisture-sensitive reagents, solid phase organic synthesis, and laboratory automation.
You will investigate new synthetic methodologies described in the literature to validate these chemistries for future molecules in projects. Additionally, isolate and purify compounds from complex mixtures and characterize them using modern spectroscopic techniques such as NMR and HPLC/MS.
Comprehensive and accurate documentation of all laboratory work is integral, as is the organization and communication of results both orally and in written form. Alkermes applies neuroscience expertise to develop medicines for complex psychiatric and neurological disorders, with a portfolio of commercial products and a development pipeline.
