5w1 month agoUniversität Siegen
DE · Full-time · €25,000 – €35,000
About this role
This part-time researcher position in the Faculty IV: School of Science and Technology at the University of Siegen focuses on supramolecular chemistry with the aim of obtaining a doctorate. The role is based in the Chemie-Biologie/Organische Chemie I group and offers a unique environment for interdisciplinary research.
Day-to-day work involves independent research and practical laboratory work, including the synthesis of organic ligands, investigating the self-assembly of metal-organic cages, and characterizing these structures using techniques such as NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and UV/vis spectroscopy. You will also explore the properties of metal-organic cages, including host-guest chemistry, photochemistry, and stimuli-responsive properties.
You will collaborate with other scientists in inter/national collaborations and participate in the preparation and editing of publications and progress reports. The role also includes teaching duties of 2 SWS and day-to-day supervision of Bachelor and Master's research projects.
This position provides an excellent opportunity to pursue a doctorate in a cutting-edge field within a modern, internationally oriented university. The University of Siegen is one of the largest employers in the region, offering a supportive environment for research and knowledge transfer.
Requirements
- Above-average academic degree (Master or equivalent) in Chemistry
- A Master's thesis in the field of supramolecular chemistry is an advantage, especially with aspects of organic synthesis, coordination chemistry and metal-organic cages
- Completed modules in supramolecular chemistry during a Bachelor or Master’s degree is desirable
- Experience with organic ligand synthesis, synthesis of coordination complexes and metal-organic cages, and synthesis of air- and water-sensitive compounds (e.g. by Schlenk techniques and/or in a glovebox)
- Experience with characterisation of supramolecular structures using spectroscopy (e.g. diamagnetic and paramagnetic NMR, UV/vis, CD, fluorescence) and mass spectrometry
- Experience with investigating properties of metal-organic cages (e.g. host-guest chemistry, light-responsive properties) and photochemistry (e.g. synthesis and investigation of photophysical properties of photoswitches)
- Very good knowledge of English; very good knowledge of German is an advantage
- Experience in teaching, especially in organic chemistry and/or supramolecular chemistry, is an advantage
