About this role

The School of Professional Studies seeks an adjunct faculty member to deliver high quality learning experiences and education for students in the online, asynchronous, self-paced format. Instructors will deliver a pre-developed Organic Chemistry course, adding subject matter expertise and real-world examples to developed content. They play an important role in the continuous improvement and overall success of the course.

The selected candidate teaches Organic Chemistry lecture and lab courses to self-paced, online, part-time learners. Subject matters include structure and bonding of organic molecules, stereochemistry, nomenclature, and the structure and function of multifunctional compounds. Deliver didactic and laboratory instruction in an online, self-paced format.

Use the University’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments, materials, and communicate with students. Facilitate student progress by providing timely, individualized feedback on assessments and activities. Monitor engagement and proactively reach out to inactive learners to support course completion.

Advise students through office hours, videoconference, phone, email, or other mechanisms. Participate in faculty meetings, training on online teaching, and provide service including mentoring and course development. Contribute to student success in an asynchronous environment for learners entering health professions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in subject area or related field preferred
  • Previous experience teaching online courses to undergraduate or graduate students entering health professions
  • Commitment to undergraduate, graduate and/or professional education and student success
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and effectively interact with students, faculty, administration, and external constituents
  • Experience with a learning management system, such as Blackboard
  • Experience using ALEKS preferred

Responsibilities

  • Deliver didactic and laboratory instruction in an online, self-paced format
  • Use the University’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments, materials, and communicate with students
  • Facilitate student progress in an asynchronous environment by providing timely, individualized feedback
  • Advise and assist students through office hours, videoconference, phone, email, or other mechanisms
  • Monitor student engagement and proactively reach out to inactive or falling behind learners
  • Grade assignments, quizzes, and exams within established turnaround times
  • Participate in required faculty meetings and training sessions related to online teaching
  • Submit final grades in a timely manner in accordance with policies
