About this role

The Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry & Physics in the College of Natural and Health Sciences at The University of Tampa invites applications for part-time instructors for Organic Chemistry I/II Laboratory. This is a pool position with applications accepted on a continuous basis and reviewed when openings become available. Future teaching assignments are on a term-by-term basis.

Instructors teach one or more 4-hour Organic Chemistry I or II Laboratories per week for a semester, following the laboratory manual prepared by chemistry faculty. They explain safety procedures, experiments, and expectations for each lab. Instructors assist students with experimental procedures and data collection.

Additional responsibilities include creating a syllabus each semester using department guidelines and providing office hours for students. Instructors grade and return lab reports in a timely fashion. They also manage the online learning management system Canvas in consultation with the Organic Chemistry Laboratory Coordinator.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in chemistry or related field, with a graduate degree preferred. Experience teaching Organic Chemistry I/II laboratories is preferred. The University is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to diversity.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with standard organic chemistry laboratory experiments and safety protocols
  • Proficiency in managing lab data collection and student reports
  • Ability to use learning management systems like Canvas
