Full-time · €25,000 – €35,000
About this role
The University of Siegen, a modern and internationally oriented university with around 14,000 students, is seeking a researcher for the Faculty IV: School of Science and Technology, in the Chemie-Biologie / Organische Chemie I group. This part-time position (50%, 19.92 hours per week) is available from 1 October 2026 and is limited until 30 September 2029.
The successful candidate will conduct independent research in supramolecular chemistry with the aim of obtaining a doctorate. Day-to-day work involves practical laboratory work, including organic ligand synthesis, the synthesis of coordination complexes and metal-organic cages, and the characterization of supramolecular structures using spectroscopy and mass spectrometry.
The role includes collaboration with other scientists in (inter)national collaborations, participation in the preparation and editing of publications and progress reports, and involvement in the day-to-day supervision of Bachelor and Master’s research projects. Teaching duties of 2 SWS will begin in April 2028.
The position offers the opportunity to pursue a scientific qualification (e.g., PhD) according to the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, with diverse opportunities to take on responsibility and make a visible contribution in the research and teaching environment.
Requirements
- Above-average academic degree (Master or equivalent) in Chemistry
- A Master's thesis in the field of supramolecular chemistry is an advantage, especially with aspects of organic synthesis, coordination chemistry and metal-organic cages
- Completed modules in supramolecular chemistry during a Bachelor or Master’s degree is desirable
- Experience with organic ligand synthesis is advantageous
- Experience with the synthesis of coordination complexes and metal-organic cages (particularly spin-crossover complexes and cages) is advantageous
- Experience with the synthesis of air- and water-sensitive compounds (e.g. by Schlenk techniques and/or in a glovebox) is advantageous
- Experience with the characterisation of supramolecular structures using spectroscopy (e.g. diamagnetic and paramagnetic NMR, UV/vis) and mass spectrometry is advantageous
- Very good knowledge of English; very good knowledge of German is an advantage
