About this role

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, you will engage in meaningful work that has a positive impact on a global scale. As a Chemical Engineer / Process Chemist, you will support the production team with technical and chemical expertise while driving product and process improvements. You will ensure smooth scale-up into large-scale manufacturing and serve as a competent interface for internal and external stakeholders.

Develop and transfer new products, formulations and processes from laboratory or pilot scale into commercial manufacturing. Support production in increasing process robustness and stability through root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions. Drive process optimizations of existing manufacturing processes while preparing cGMP-compliant documentation.

Plan, design and evaluate experiments to verify feasibility, scalability and robustness of new processes. Analyze process data using statistical tools and lead or support risk assessments such as FMEA and HAZOP during development and scale-up. Collaborate in cross-functional R&D projects and support technology transfer activities across the global manufacturing network.

Requirements

  • University degree (PhD preferred) in Chemical Engineering, Technical Chemistry, or Organic Chemistry.
  • Initial experience in the pharmaceutical industry and knowledge of GMP requirements is advantageous.
  • Strong technical and scientific understanding of chemical processes; experience in continuous process development is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with process analytical technologies (PAT) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially MS Excel; experience with statistical software is beneficial.
  • Good German and English skills with a structured and systematic working style.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and transfer new products, formulations and processes from laboratory or pilot scale into commercial manufacturing.
  • Support production in increasing process robustness and stability, including root cause analysis and implementation of CAPA.
  • Drive process optimizations of existing manufacturing processes and develop innovative strategies to enhance efficiency.
  • Prepare cGMP-compliant process documentation and regulatory submission documents for new equipment and processes.
  • Plan, design and evaluate experiments to verify feasibility, scalability and robustness of new processes.
  • Analyze process data using statistical tools and lead risk assessments such as FMEA and HAZOP during scale-up.
  • Evaluate and implement new raw materials, alternative suppliers and process technologies while supporting global technology transfers.
