Olema Oncology is dedicated to developing better medicines for breast cancer and beyond. The lead program palazestrant is a complete estrogen receptor antagonist currently in development for metastatic breast cancer. The follow-on candidate OP-3136 is a potent KAT6 inhibitor with best-in-class potential.

As the Synthetic Medicinal Chemistry Intern you will gain hands-on organic chemistry laboratory experience within a biotechnology environment. Reporting to the Principal Research Associate, you will work alongside the Medicinal Chemistry team to synthesize compounds evaluated in biological assays.

Your work will primarily encompass synthesizing, purifying, and characterizing small molecules in support of drug discovery programs. You will conduct laboratory experiments in consultation with Chemistry team members while utilizing databases such as Reaxys or SciFinder.

This position is a 10-week paid summer internship at $22/hour working 40 hours a week onsite at the San Francisco facility. The internship dates are June 8 through August 14. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a 4-year undergraduate program or 2026 graduate
  • Currently a standing junior or senior
  • Currently majoring in and/or taking Chemistry classes or closely related field of study
  • Highly motivated student studying synthetic organic chemistry or closely related field
  • Authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Synthesize, purify, and characterize small molecules in support of Olema drug discovery programs
  • Conduct laboratory experiments in consultation with Chemistry team members
  • Utilize databases such as Reaxys or SciFinder to design and plan experiments
  • Acquire and interpret analytical data including HPLC, LCMS, and NMR
  • Keep excellent records of experimental procedures and acquired data in lab notebook
  • Summarize and present experimental findings in group meetings
