Chapman University and Schmid College of Science and Technology seek applications for a Part-time Lab Lecturer for Organic Chemistry II Laboratory (CHEM 331L) for Spring 2026. Responsibilities include teaching one assigned 4-hour lab section once per week on Wednesdays from 1:00-4:50 p.m. Each week features presenting a pre-laboratory lecture, instructing students in laboratory technique and safety, holding office hours, and grading assignments. Availability for pre-semester orientations and weekly meetings with the lab coordinator is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or equivalent professional experience
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing
  • Strong commitment to student learning, quality teaching, and academic excellence
  • Demonstrates appreciation for students' active role in learning and a commitment to personalized education within the Chapman Lab Experience
  • Completed or in-progress graduate degree (Ph.D or Master’s) in a STEM discipline
  • University or community college teaching experience, specifically with advanced chemistry courses such as organic chemistry lab

Responsibilities

  • Teach one assigned 4-hour lab section once per week throughout the semester on Wednesdays, 1:00 - 4:50 p.m.
  • Present a pre-laboratory lecture about the lab material each week
  • Instruct and guide students in correct laboratory technique and safety during experiment execution
  • Hold weekly office hours (one hour per class taught)
  • Grade all assignments submitted by the students
  • Attend lab lecturer orientations before the start of the semester
  • Attend weekly meetings with lab coordinator
