Organic Synthetic Chemist

2w

ANSTO

Sydney, AU · Full-time · A$100,000 – A$134,000

About this role

Play a key role in producing cutting-edge deuterated molecules that power advanced neutron and NMR research at the National Deuteration Facility. Contribute to the production, purification and characterisation of small organic molecules labelled with deuterium using isotopic exchange and synthetic chemistry techniques. This supports structural investigations by internal and external users.

Undertake deuteration reactions, chromatographic purification of deuterated molecules and their characterisation using NMR and MS. Manage individual approved NDF deuteration proposals from external users, including client liaison. Develop protocols for hydrogen exchange at high temperature and pressure to produce deuterated precursors followed by modified synthesis routes.

Join ANSTO, home to Australia's landmark national infrastructure for research, where thousands of scientists access state-of-the-art instruments. Work in the Sutherland Shire with health and wellbeing programs. Partner with scientists and engineers to deliver outcomes in human health, industries and environment protection.

Apply specialised expertise to establish new protocols for deuterated chemicals production and purification. Provide deuteration expertise and infrastructure to NDF users and other ANSTO groups. Benefit from training, development and generous leave provisions to balance work and commitments.
