About this role

The School of Professional Studies seeks an adjunct faculty member to deliver high quality learning experiences and education for students in the online, asynchronous, self-paced format. Instructors will deliver a pre-developed Organic Chemistry course, adding subject matter expertise and real-world examples. They play an important role in the continuous improvement and overall success of the course.

The selected candidate teaches Organic Chemistry lecture and lab courses to self-paced, online, part-time learners covering topics like structure and bonding of organic molecules, stereochemistry, and nomenclature. Deliver didactic and laboratory instruction in an online format using the University’s learning management system. Post syllabus, assignments, materials, and communicate with students through it.

Facilitate student progress in an asynchronous environment with timely, individualized feedback on assessments and activities. Monitor engagement and proactively reach out to inactive or falling behind learners to support completion. Maintain strong online presence through consistent communication, announcements, and availability.

Advise students via office hours, videoconference, phone, email, or other mechanisms. Participate in faculty meetings, training on online teaching and technology. Contribute to service including student mentoring, ongoing course development, and assessment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in subject area or related field preferred
  • Previous experience teaching online courses to undergraduate or graduate students entering health professions
  • Commitment to undergraduate, graduate and/or professional education and student success
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Able to work independently and effectively interact with students, faculty, administration, staff, and external constituents
  • Experience with a learning management system, such as Blackboard
  • Experience using ALEKS preferred

Responsibilities

  • Deliver didactic and laboratory instruction in an online, self-paced format
  • Use the University’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments, materials, and communicate with students
  • Facilitate student progress by providing timely, individualized feedback on assessments and learning activities
  • Advise and assist students through office hours, videoconference, phone, email, or other mechanisms
  • Monitor student engagement and proactively reach out to inactive or falling behind learners
  • Grade assignments, quizzes, and exams within established turnaround times
  • Participate in required faculty meetings and training sessions related to online teaching
  • Submit final grades in a timely manner in accordance with policies
