About this role

As a Senior Scientist II in Medicinal Chemistry, Oncology at AbbVie, you will conduct research within a large, multi-functional medicinal chemistry organization at our North Chicago site. Our mission is to discover and deliver innovative medicines and solutions that solve serious health issues today and address future medical challenges.

As part of a project team, you will devise and execute synthetic routes to generate potential drug targets for oncology programs. You will learn to use institutional software and tools to enable and accelerate the design of new drug targets.

Working within AbbVie's oncology therapeutic area, you will collaborate with colleagues across immunology, neuroscience, and eye care. The role involves optimizing routes to scale-up materials for key in vivo studies and applying novel synthetic methodologies.

You will conceive and execute hypothesis-driven medicinal chemistry projects to optimize safety, ADME, and efficacy of potential drug candidates. This role offers the chance to make a remarkable impact on patients' lives through oncology, a key therapeutic area.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related chemical science field.
  • Strong background in synthetic organic chemistry and modern synthetic methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and optimize synthetic routes for complex molecules.
  • Experience with structure-activity relationship (SAR) analysis and medicinal chemistry optimization.
  • Proficiency in modern analytical techniques (NMR, LCMS, HPLC) for compound characterization.
  • Ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Knowledge of ADME and pharmacology concepts relevant to drug discovery.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in a research environment.
