About this role

The School of Chemistry at the University of Sydney is seeking four Postdoctoral Research Associates in Medicinal Chemistry. These positions contribute to drug discovery projects selected by MedChem Australia, a national initiative.

Day-to-day work involves leading research in lead candidate optimization, preparing and publishing research papers, and assisting with grant writing. The role also supports teaching activities and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Requirements

  • PhD (or near completion) in medicinal chemistry, organic chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
  • Proven ability to conduct research and scholarly activities under limited supervision, either independently or as a member of a team.
  • Experience in student supervision at the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Published research as sole author or in collaboration.
  • Experience in research record keeping, preparation of research papers, and presentation of seminars.
  • Strong background in synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry principles.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake research in lead candidate optimization for drug discovery projects.
  • Publish research papers in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Demonstrate research excellence through high-quality outputs.
  • Assist with grant writing and preparation of original research proposals.
  • Support teaching activities and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Maintain accurate research records and present findings at seminars.
  • Collaborate with the MedChem Australia team on selected projects.
