Houston, US · Full-time · $138,309 – $157,498

About this role

Nurix Therapeutics is a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of targeted protein degradation medicines for cancer and inflammatory diseases. We seek a talented Senior Scientist with expertise in synthetic organic chemistry to join our medicinal chemistry group in Houston. The position centers on creating degrader-based small molecules to address unmet medical needs.

The scientist will design and synthesize novel chemical entities optimized for potency, selectivity, pharmacokinetics and in vivo efficacy. Work involves rational structure-based drug discovery enabled by computational and structural biology groups. Contributions include patent, report and scientific publication writing along with process improvements.

As part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team, collaboration occurs with scientists within Nurix and external collaborators. The role requires engaging in cross-functional leadership either as project team leader or co-lead. Strong emphasis is placed on integrating medicinal chemistry principles with biology and pharmacology knowledge.

Opportunities exist to initiate and lead process improvements within the chemistry department. The position offers a chance to direct drug discovery programs toward phase transitions using advanced computational tools and models. This environment supports inventive contributions to new chemical target structures.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry with 8 – 10+ years pharmaceutical medicinal chemistry industrial experience
  • Track record of delivering advanced leads/development candidates
  • Excellent knowledge of medicinal chemistry principles with solid understanding of biology, pharmacology, ADME concepts and series SAR
  • Strong working knowledge of protein-ligand interactions, conformational and structural analysis; experienced partnering with computational chemists
  • Expert in organic synthesis with strong synthetic problem-solving skills and knowledge of current literature
  • Proven leadership capability in a cross-functional team setting as project team leader or co-lead
  • Ability to manage priorities and advance multiple projects simultaneously

Responsibilities
