CAS seeks a Synthetic Chemist / Natural Product Chemist for the Content Operations team in Columbus, Ohio. This role applies scientific expertise, analytical skills, problem-solving, and language skills to build CAS’s world-class chemical information data. It involves curating high-quality research data from patents, journals, reports, books, proceedings, and dissertations.

The team curates data from 64 patent offices, thousands of journals, and publications in 180 countries across more than 50 languages. The global, diverse CAS team is endlessly curious and strives to make scientific insights accessible worldwide. Incumbents leverage education to index substance and reaction data in chemistry literature.

This position provides scientific and content knowledge, capabilities, insights, and solutions for other CAS functions. It fosters quality and productivity through learning policies, work habits, and tool usage from trainers. The role builds the CAS Content Collection with valuable chemical structure data.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Synthetic Chemistry / Natural Product Chemistry or a related science preferred; alternatively, bachelor's degree with 1-3 years of related work experience
  • Japanese and/or Korean language skills desired
  • Excellent scientific reading comprehension and writing skills
  • Ability to learn policies, work habits, insights, and tool usage from trainers to foster quality and productivity
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, collect, and curate valuable chemical structure data from patent or journal publications using CAS indexing policies and expertise
  • Leverage technical knowledge and applicable language skills to extract key insights and build the CAS Content Collection
  • Index substance and reaction data found in patents, journals, and other chemistry-related literature
  • Curate high-quality research data from 64 patent offices, thousands of journals, technical reports, books, conference proceedings, and dissertations
  • Apply scientific expertise and problem-solving capabilities to chemical information data
  • Provide scientific and content knowledge, capabilities, insights, and solutions for other CAS functions
