About this role

Agilent Technologies' R&D team in Middelburg is part of the Chemistries and Supplies Division, focusing on consumables for gas chromatography (GC) and liquid chromatography (HPLC). The role supports projects in GC columns development for a student with an analytical chemistry background. Hands-on experiments use the latest GC instruments and column technology under an experienced R&D chemist's supervision.

You will engage in research to develop new or improved GC columns. This includes building understanding of stationary phase synthesis, GC column manufacturing, and column testing with performance evaluation. Daily tasks involve developing methodologies to evaluate prototypes and generating experimental data.

The team operates within a global technology company providing instruments, services, and expertise to laboratories worldwide. Exposure comes to industrial R&D in a dynamic international environment. Projects span the full innovation chain from chemistry to product concept.

This 6-9 month internship offers insight into cutting-edge GC column technologies. Develop practical laboratory skills, data analysis, and scientific communication. Gain experience benchmarking new phases against existing technologies and identifying strengths and limitations.

Requirements

  • Studying for a BSc/MSc degree in Analytical Chemistry or closely related field
  • Interest in Gas Chromatography and separation science
  • Curious, hands-on, and eager to learn
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Fluent in English

Responsibilities

  • Engage in hands-on experiments with latest GC instruments and GC column technology
  • Support research projects to develop new or improved GC columns
