General Proximity

San Francisco, US · Full-time · $160,000 – $240,000

About this role

General Proximity is a seed-stage startup developing next-generation induced proximity medicines (IPMs). The OmniTAC drug discovery engine creates molecules that co-opt cellular machinery to address undruggable targets unapproachable for decades. We seek a first-rate medicinal chemist to pioneer this frontier.

As a founding member of the Chemistry/Drug Discovery Team, you will supervise synthetic efforts with CROs and perform in cellulo assays. Design and optimize first-in-class bifunctional molecules while collaborating on patents and mechanistic studies. Spearhead exploration into new disease areas with Platform and Drug Discovery Teams.

Join a high-energy team valuing high agency, initiative, independence, and self-accountability. Bring enthusiasm, intensity, grit for tackling complex early-stage challenges, and a prosocial drive to create life-saving medicines. Work in an environment pushing new buttons in biology for novel therapeutics.

This role offers the chance to develop core drug discovery technology and generate a novel class of therapeutics. Contribute to historically fertile fields yielding new medicines by inducing target modification via cellular machinery. Build with a supportive team on undruggable target solutions.

Requirements

  • PhD in Medicinal Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Pharmacology, or related field
  • Deep understanding of small-molecule drug discovery and its relationship to human disease
  • Industry experience desirable, but ability to work hard and learn fast is more important
  • High agency with initiative, independence, and self-accountability
  • Enthusiastic and excited about pioneering novel therapeutics
  • Intensity and grit to stick with complex drug discovery problems
  • Prosocial motivation to create life-saving medicines for patients

Responsibilities

  • Supervise synthetic efforts with CROs
  • Perform and analyze in cellulo assays
  • Design and optimize first-in-class bifunctional molecules
  • Collaborate with Drug Discovery and IP team on patent applications
  • Provide input for mechanistic studies on lead drug molecules
  • Spearhead forays into new disease areas
  • Work with Chemistry and Platform Teams on core drug discovery technology
