About this role
As a Summer Research Scientist Intern in the Research Chemistry team, you'll work at the forefront of DNA, RNA and protein sequencing innovation. Projects include optimising production of DNA, RNA and protein analytes, characterising them and analysing performance in sequencing. Hands-on experience covers analytical chemistry and molecular biology techniques.
Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to develop analytical workflows for nucleic acids using HPLC, UPLC and Mass Spec. Work hands-on in a laboratory-based environment applying skills in biochemistry, materials and surface sciences. Handle modified oligonucleotide conjugates including post-synthesis modifications and conjugation.

Requirements
- Undergraduate or postgraduate student studying biochemistry, chemistry, analytical chemistry or related fields
- On-course to achieve at least a 2.1 degree in chosen subject
- Available for minimum 3-month to maximum 12-month placement commencing spring/summer 2026

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to support the development of analytical workflows for nucleic acids using techniques such as HPLC, UPLC and Mass Spec
- Work hands-on in a laboratory-based environment applying scientific technical skills in biochemistry, materials and surface sciences
- Work with modified oligonucleotide conjugates including post-synthesis modifications and conjugation
- Assist in the planning, running, testing and reporting of R&D trials using research skills
- Apply and develop analytical chemistry skills to assess and characterise novel nucleic acid-based analytes, linking results to nanopore sequencing
- Manipulate and analyse data sets, ensuring accurate and relevant records of experimental work
- Share, present and discuss findings with the team and management using excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Manage time and resources to achieve tasks within given deadlines to a high standard of quality
