Lilly is investing over $1B to establish a Manufacturing and Quality technical hub in Hyderabad. The hub will manage contract manufacturing of starting materials and intermediates while building a cutting-edge scientific organization for API process development.

The Senior Director will lead process chemistry activities supporting post-commercial development of drug substances. Focus areas include route optimization, scalability, robustness, safety, cost efficiency, and sustainability of chemical processes.

You will direct a team of process chemists within a collaborative environment that emphasizes scientific excellence, safety culture, and regulatory compliance. The role involves close coordination with global manufacturing and quality teams across Lilly's network.

Requirements

Strong expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and process development of pharmaceutical intermediates
Demonstrated ability to observe, record, and report scientific data with precision
Experience reviewing MSDS of input materials prior to laboratory experiments
Proven track record leading technical teams in chemical process optimization
Knowledge of scalability, safety, and sustainability considerations in API manufacturing

Responsibilities

Ensure appropriate personal protective equipment is available and safety precautions are followed in laboratory premises
Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of process chemists aligned with Lilly culture
Set clear objectives, provide coaching, conduct performance reviews, and support career development
Plan and supervise post-commercial process development of intermediates and drug substances
Design, optimize, and troubleshoot chemical processes with focus on scalability, robustness, safety, cost, and sustainability
Conduct literature surveys concerning specific chemicals, reagents, and processes
Perform feasibility studies of custom products with close monitoring and supervision
Execute process optimization on selected routes based on due diligence and literature during feasibility studies
